Routes to Working in Human Resources

The professional body is the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development). Its Profession Map now structures both qualifications and membership grades into levels:

  1. 1

Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice → Foundation membership.

  2. 2

Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management (or Organisational Learning & Development) → Associate membership.

  3. 3

Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management → eligible for Chartered membership (with relevant experience).

Good to know: A degree isn’t required – entry is possible at any level depending on experience – and CIPD qualifications can also be studied via apprenticeship.
