Overview

Through the Looking Glass is a week-long programme designed to give you an insight into the different professions the City of London has to offer. You will be given an introduction into various professions, an opportunity to meet people from leading organisations within the City of London and a chance to gain helpful tips for starting a career in those professions. You will also be given a chance to participate in workshops and interactive sessions focusing on key skills for starting a career including presentations skills, negotiation skills, interview tips and CV building.

In the past, students have had the opportunity to participate in sessions led by:

  • Bankers from Lloyds Banking Group
  • Accountants from Ernst & Young LLP
  • Insurance brokers from Marsh Ltd
  • Valuers from Knight Frank
  • Surveyors from McBains Cooper
  • Lawyers from top city law firms
  • Barristers from Hardwicke Chambers

The programme has also included cultural tours of the City of London, the Houses of Parliament and a visit to the Royal Courts of Justice and the Inns of Court which is always very popular with our students.

The City of London programme has been so successful over the past few years that we are now running a similar programme in Manchester and will look to run programmes in other UK cities in the future. Watch this space!

How to apply

The programme is aimed at bright and enthusiastic Qualifying Students from Qualifying Schools.

What is a “Qualifying School”?

A Qualifying School is a school which is located in a disadvantaged area within easy travelling distance of the city centre where the programme is being held. If you are a teacher or a member of staff at a school which you think could be considered as a Qualifying School and you have a Qualifying Student who you think would benefit from the programme, please contact us at info@lookingglassuk.com and we will be in touch to provide further details of the programme and also to confirm whether we can take your school forward for that year’s programme. Participation on the programme will be at the sole discretion of the Trustees.

Who would be a “Qualifying Student”?

Students studying A-Levels and attending a Qualifying School.

We look forward to hearing from you!
